With the easy access of technology for everyone of all ages through Apps on your cell phone, it’s an added a challenge to corporate technology projects. Apps on phones make technology seem so easy to install and use, it’s hard to understand why there are so many more complications when implementing corporate technology projects. Projects are always experiencing challenges, this isn’t new, and this challenge isn’t any different in how projects are managed. The key to successful projects and stakeholder acceptance is still communication. Communication so everyone understands:
- Data management, privacy, and security.
- IT Governance. Such as who’s involved, who makes the corporate decision on what levels of risk to accept versus who is implementing the project.
- Stakeholder and subject matter expert identification and communication. IT projects can have a wider reach than you may initial think.
- At project handover, the ongoing operating and maintenance support required and how it will work.
Technology projects don’t have to be scary. Human nature is to make assumptions based on your knowledge, one of the roles of the Project Manager is to customize communication to the project, and use language so that everyone understands, from an entry level position to the CEO. Marketing it out there to lead everyone to think installing their application is easy and fast. Communication is key so that everyone understand what’s involved and why. IT doesn’t want to be a roadblock, they want to set up everyone for success when the project is complete.
Communicate, communicate, communicate, and when in doubt communicate again!
